Google About to Disrupt the Energy Business

There is more proof that Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) might be the most value tech company in the universe. The corporation formerly known as Google might help make nuclear fusion a reality.

Hot fusion researchers at Tri Alpha Energy are testing a Google Research algorithm called Optometrist, The Guardian reported. Optometrist helped Tri Alpha reduce losses in its C2-U reactor by 50% and increase total plasma energy.

That’s critical because plasma is the key to hot fusion, most hot fusion processes work by heating plasma to high temperatures to create a superhot ball a sort of miniature sun. What’s even more exciting is that operations that used to take Tri Alpha engineers can now be performed in less than a day thanks to Optometrist.

“Results like this might take years to solve without the power of advanced computation,” Michl Binderbauer, president and chief technology officer at Tri Alpha Energy told The Guardian.

Will Alphabet Make Commercial Fusion a Reality?

This might help Tri Alpha achieve hot fusion in a few years and MIT Professor Dennis Whyte’s prediction that it will be possible to build a fusion reactor with off-the-shelf technology by 2025 a reality.

Hot fusion would be a real game changer because it would enable to production of vast amounts of electricity without radiation, pollution or fossil fuel uses. This would help speed up the adoption of electric cars and hasten the “Death of the Internal Combustion” engine by making vast amounts of electricity for vehicles available.

Among other things commercial hot fusion would put the coal industry complete out of business and greatly reduce the demand for natural gas and oil. Some potential uses for hot fusion would be to make enough steam or hot water to heat entire cities and revolutionize waste disposal.

Watch out Alphabet is about to Disrupt Energy

Hot fusion would solve the problems of trash, hazardous waste, biological waste and nuclear waste because the super-hot reactor could burn almost anything up instantly and leave no residue. Other intriguing purposes would include gigantic airships that never have to land and ships that do not have to be refueled.

One has to wonder what results will be achieved when Optometrist is used on other research projects. Experiments that might be speeded up by it include; ARC Hot fusion reactor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) stellarator in Germany. That would be truly disruptive because Whyte; who is working on the ARC, claims it would power a city of 100,000 people.

Many other experiments might also benefit from Optometrist including Toyota’s solid state batteries, fuel cell research, and oil from algae. Exxon-Mobil (NYSE: XOM) and a company called Synthetic Genomics claim that they can make biofuels from algae via advanced genetic engineering, The Financial Times reported.

It looks as if Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) is about to disrupt the worlds of energy and research in the way it disrupted search, news and advertising. If it succeeds vast new opportunities for profit and huge amounts of pollution free energy might soon become available.

Speeding up the commercialization of new energy sources will be even more disruptive than speeding up research. Many old-line companies will disappear and whole new industries will be created if Optometrist works as advertised.
