Items to Buy on Jet.com

Jet.com can be a confusing retailer because it is an online marketplace for everyday consumer goods like paper towels and laundry detergent. Its pricing structure can be very confusing but savvy shoppers can save a lot of money on Jet.com.

Don’t be surprised if you are unfamiliar with Jet.com it started just last year as an online shopping club that charged a membership fee sort of like Costco Wholesale (NASDAQ: COST). After a few months the fee was dropped and Jet became a discounter. The company has been very successful and it was purchased by Walmart (NYSE: WMT) for $3 billion in August 2016.

You should be shopping on Jet because it offers much better prices on items like laundry detergent than sites like Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN). It is also fast and provides a better level of service than some sites.

How to Save Money on Jet.com

Once you figure out how to shop there you can save a lot of money at Jet.com. Here are some tips for taking advantage of it.

  • Buy in bulk. Jet gives you an escalating discount based on the amount that you buy. For example if you buy $113.49 worth stuff you’ll get extra savings of $8.94 so you’ll pay $104.55. One great way to take advantage of this is to double up on the amounts you order. The choose options screen will also tell how much you will pay per item if you buy more than one.

  • Opt out of returns. Jet gives you a slight discount if you opt out of free returns. It was 14¢ for Tide laundry detergent but it quickly adds up. This can save you money especially for name brands you know and trust like Tide. It also makes no sense to pay extra for returns on stuff like laundry detergent. To take advantage of this discount; click on choose options you should see four prices offered. All you need to do is click on the circle next to the price labeled if you opt out of free returns on this item you pay less. Note this discount is also offered in the cart.

  • Pay with a debit card instead of a credit card. Jet gives you a small discount if you pay with a debit card instead of a credit. This option is offered below the opt out of free returns feature. You can take advantage of both discounts by clicking on the fourth price listed.

  • Take advantage of free shipping. Jet’s free shipping offer is much better than Walmart and Amazon’s because it gives you free shipping for buying just $35 worth stuff. More importantly everything is shipped two days which means you get it fast. Amazon’s offer can be a pretty bad deal because you have to buy $50 worth of stuff and it might not ship for two weeks. Both Amazon and Walmart use the cheapest method possible for free shipping which can take up to two weeks.

As you can see it is fairly easy to save money on Jet.com. There are also some products for which you can get greater discounts on Jet.

  • Printer cartridges. I found a compatible toner cartridge for a Dell E310dw laser printer with a 2,600 page yield selling for just $19.99 at Jet.com.

As you see you can save money on Jet if you’re willing to shop around and read the fine print. Watch Jet carefully in coming months because there’s a good chance that some of its prices will fall now that the company is owned by Walmart.

One change that shoppers should hope for and ask for is to integrate Walmart Shipping Pass with Jet.com. That would give anybody that pays $49.99 a year for the Pass free shipping on both Jet and Walmart.com; which would be a tremendous deal.

It would also drive a lot of business to Jet by introducing Walmart.com customers to it. An even greater advantage would be to integrate Jet with Walmart’s ecosystem which would expand its inventory and open the door to the possibility of same day delivery. Walmart is experimenting with same day delivery services provided by Uber and Lyft in Phoenix and Denver.

Every online shopper needs to check out Jet.com because it can save you a lot of money. Jet is also a lot of fun to shop at.
