Android Pay Now Supports PayPal, Discover and Visa Checkout

Alphabet’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) payment solution; Android Pay, will soon support PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL) and Discover (NYSE: DIS) cards and Visa’s Checkout App.

That means Visa (NYSE: V) users will be able to make a payment with Android Pay without exposing their card numbers if they sign up for Visa Checkout, Tech Times reported. The service is supposed to go live during the week of January 23, 2017.

PayPal and Discover users will be able to use Android Pay beginning in the week of January 23, 2017, Payments Source reported. That means people with PayPal accounts will be able to use them at cash registers that accept Android Pay. Discover card holders will also be able to use the solution.

Unfortunately Master Card’s (NYSE: MA) Masterpass digital wallet is not yet available via Android Pay. That means Master Card holders will have to put their cards directly into Alphabet Pay to use the App.

Android Pay Now on far More Cash Registers

Android Pay will now be available on far more cash registers as well. Equinox Payments announced that its Apollo, L5000 and Luxe terminal models now Accept Android Pay.

Among other things that means Android Pay is now accepted at all Walgreens (NASDAQ: WBA) drugstores, Payments.com reported. It also means but Android Pay can now be integrated with Walgreens Balance Reward card program much like Apple Pay is. Unfortunately Walgreens was the only store mentioned in news stories about the new registers.

Chick-Fil-A now accepts Android Pay

Several new retailers are now accepting Android Pay as well, they include popular fast-food outlet Chick-fil-A, grocer Cub Foods, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Shops, Phil’s Coffee, Raley’s Supermarkets, Save Mart Supermarkets, Shop N’ Save supermarkets, Harvey’s Supermarkets, Horbachers Supermarkets, Schunucks, Shoppers Supermarkets, Sprouts Farmers Market, Trader Joys, Toys R Us, The Fresh Market, United Supermarkets, Supervalu, Star Market, Wegmans and White Castle.

Unfortunately the Kroger supermarkets are not yet accepting Apple Pay, but Lucky which is partially owned by Kroger is. Luby’s Supermarkets, Wegmans, Whole Foods, Win Dixie and Lin’s Fresh Market now take Android Pay as well. You can also use Android Pay at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), Subway and Dunkin Donuts.

It looks as if Android Pay is becoming a viable threat to Apple Pay. All it needs is more banks to accept it and integration with Walmart Pay and Chase Pay to become the leading U.S. payment app.
