How Republicans are Destroying Trump

Strangely, Presidential Donald J. Trump’s (R-Florida) most destructive enemies are not the Resistance, the media, or Antifa. Instead, Trump’s worst enemies are his fellow Republicans.

In particular, Trump’s greatest enemies are U.S. Senate Republicans. To explain, I think Trump could win the presidential election if Congress passed a large stimulus package.

Instead, the US Senate left on vacation after letting the $600 a week federal unemployment insurance payment expire. CNBC claims 25.6 million Americans; who can vote, lost the $600 a week unemployment payment insurance payment.

Hence, Senate Republicans just said “go fuck yourself” to 25.6 million potential voters. I suspect those voters will remember that action in November.

How Mitch McConnell is destroying Trump

Moreover, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) refuses to hold a floor vote on the Democratic U.S. House of Representatives’ HEROES Act.

To elaborate, the HEROES Act is a $3 trillion package of coronavirus relief. The HEROES Act Relief Includes:

  • A second $1,200 stimulus payment for every American earning less than $75,000 a year.
  •  Up to $6,000 in stimulus payments for American households.
  • Extend the $600 a week unemployment insurance until January 2021.
  • Extend Student Loan forgiveness through September 2021.
  • Cancel up to $10,000 in student loan debt.
  • Provide $100 billion in rental assistance to bail out renters and landlords.
  • Pay Essential Workers up to $25,000 in Hazard Pay for work performed during the Coronavirus Pandemic.

I think Trump could become the most popular President since Ronald Reagan (R-California) – if he could sign the HEROES Act. Moreover, I think signing the HEROES Act could ensure Trump’s reelection. Unfortunately, the Donald will never get the chance to sign the HEROES Act because Mitch McConnell killed it.

The HEROES Act Could Save Trump

Trump has pronounced the HEROES Act “Dead on Arrival” but he has not said whether he will sign it. However, I think an opportunist such as Trump will jump at the chance to sign any law that could ensure reelection.

Nor is Republican support for other stimulus probable. Frighteningly,  U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) predicts half of U.S. Senate Republicans will vote against the next coronavirus stimulus package.

Thus, it appears Senate Republicans want to destroy President Trump’s reelection chances. I have to wonder if Senate Republicans care about Republican voters, Trump, or the possibility of winning?

Yes, Trump is Losing

If McConnell’s actual goal is to drive Trump out of office, the majority leader’s plan is working.

For example, the July Emerson Poll estimates Trump was losing the president polling contest to Joe Biden (D-Delaware) by 4%. In detail, Emerson estimates 50% of Americans support Biden and 46% back Trump. Moreover, Emerson estimates 51% of voters disapprove of Trump’s job performance.

Other polls paint a worse picture for Trump. For example, the 26 July to 28 July 2020 Economist/YouGov estimates Biden had a 9% lead. In detail, Economist/YouGov put Biden at 49 points and Trump at 40%.

Furthermore, the 21 July to 23 July 2020 Harvard Harris poll gives Trump 45% of the vote, and Biden 55%. Hence, the Harvard Harris pollsters claim Biden is beating Trump by 10 points.

Republicans are Destroying Trump

Even the July 22 to July 28, 2020 Rasmussen Reports survey; a polling service, usually seen as pro-Republican, places Biden at 48% and Trump at 42%. Thus a Republican polling firm gives Biden a 6% lead.

I think Biden has an insurmountable lead, if the polls are correct. However, I believe Trump could come back fast if he could sign the HEROES Act or something similar. Yet the President will not get the chance.

I do not know why McConnell and company are trying to destroy Trump’s presidency. However, it appears some Republicans are trying to destroy Trump.

Today’s Republican Party proves the old phrase “with friends like these who need enemies” is true. Trump’s so-called friends in the Republican Party are destroying his reelection chances.
