Rich Democrat Angry at Attacks on Billionaires

A major Democratic donor went on MSNBC to demand that his party stop attacking billionaires and millionaires.

“It’s so effing wrong,” Stephen J. Cloobeck said of attacks on the billionaire class. “I’ve talked to Schumer, I’ve talked to Wyden, I’ve talked to Pelosi and I’ve said if you use the term billionaire again, I’m done. It’s aspirational.”

Cloobeck made the remark to MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle on 7 November, The Wrap reported. He threatened to leave the party over such remarks. Worse Cloobeck threatened Democrats that did not toe to his Clintonist party line. Cloobeck is the founder of Diamond Resorts International, and he is worth $100 million, according to The Richest.

“It is very, very disturbing when I hear the millionaire and billionaire word and I’ve told them to stop it, knock it off,” Cloobeck said. “I’ve made it very clear, I’ll cut your money off and others will do the same. We’ve had enough.”

“We should be a party of business and leadership,” Cloobeck said of Democrats. Cloobeck is the worst kind of centrist; he thinks the only good Democrat is “Republican Lite.” His party is one that President Grover Cleveland (D-New York) would be very comfortable in, but Harry S. Truman (D-Missouri) would hate.


Cloobeck sounds like a Republican, one wonders why he is not part of that party? Strangely enough, he attacked the GOP for being bigoted and Anti-Semitic. Strangely enough, Cloobeck then blathered on about “Democratic values” which he described as opposition to racism and little else.

The truly disturbing thing about Cloobeck is that the kind of person that people like U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-California); U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon), and U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-New York), are listening to. Donald J. Trump is obviously hoping that they keep listening to him.

“If we go far left, I’m out,” Cloobeck said. Perhaps Democrats should welcome his statement and say good riddance. It might be a good idea to tell Cloobeck where the nearest Republican Party headquarters is, I’m sure he’ll find plenty of kindred spirits there.

Interestingly enough, the left-wing group Justice Democrats is already using Cloobeck’s childish tirade to raise funds. One wonders how many other rich donors like Cloobeck are out there; and what they are the telling the likes of Pelosi, Wyden, and Schumer behind closed doors.

Such class warfare might tear the Democratic Party apart much as it has already devastated the Republicans. It remains to be seen if the two-party system can survive income inequality in America. Can a country with one party for the rich; and another for everybody else, have an effective democracy or a status quo of permanent class warfare?
