John McCain Screws Voters Again

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) just proved he is the slipperiest and most despicable man in American politics. McCain managed to screw Arizona’s voters yet again and got away with it.

Arizona law requires a special election to fill a vacant U.S. Senate seat – if the vacancy occurs before May 30. McCain was still in office on July 10, 2018. That means his replacement will probably be appointed by Arizona’s Republican Governor Doug Ducey.

That screws voters because Democratic U.S. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema was beating likely Republican opponents by 7% in polls; FiveThirtyEight, pointed out on June 29. Had a special election been held, Arizona might have ended up with two Democratic Senators.

John McCain is No Hero

All this proves that John McCain is no hero because he is staying in the Senate for one reason. That reason is to screw Arizona’s voters out of their chance to elect his replacement.

That replacement would either be a Democrat or a pro-Trump Republican, which he would hate. McCain would rather stay in the Senate with brain cancer, than let voters chose his replacement.

Most disturbing of all is the way the media makes McCain out to be a hero. McCain’s behavior is elitist, self-serving, arrogant, and hyper-partisan.

His actions are driven by contempt for the voters and fear of the people – not by patriotism. Yet the media will keep portraying McCain as a “hero,” a patriot, and a good man.

Yes, McCain’s diagnosis of brain cancer is tragic, but his behavior is disgusting. The people of Arizona deserve a competent Senator actively representing their interests in Washington. McCain should be at home; or in a hospice, where he can enjoy a peaceful death surrounded by family.

McCain Puts Kavanaugh Appointment in Danger

The only defense of McCain’s actions, some Republicans will make is that it enables President Donald J. Trump (R-New York) to appoint another U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

That is nonsense because almost nobody knew Justice Anthony Kennedy was retiring until the end of June. Yes, it is true that the Republicans would need McCain’s vote to approve Kennedy’s replacement.

It takes 51 votes to approve a Supreme Court nominee. Republicans have a one-vote majority in the U.S. Senate. The GOP would have been guaranteed 51 votes to appoint Brett Kavanaugh had McCain retired before May 30.

Ducey’s appointment would have been in the Senate in August to approve Kavanaugh. Arizona would have got the chance to vote on McCain’s replacement in November.

Now, Kavanaugh’s appointment is in danger because McCain can die at any time. That might scuttle the process, and deprive the country of a functioning Supreme Court.

Polls indicate Democrats have a chance of getting control of the Senate in the November 6 Midterm election. That means Democrats would be able to table Kavanaugh’s appointment indefinitely after taking office in January 2019.

By staying in the Senate, McCain is putting the Supreme Court nomination process in jeopardy. His behavior is not only arrogant, it is reckless and irresponsible.

How McCain can Screw Arizona Voters One Last Time

Worst of all there is yet another way McCain can screw Arizona voters from his deathbed.

McCain can delay his retirement until January 3, 2018. That is when the next Congress is scheduled to take office.

Delaying retirement until January 3 would enable Ducey to appointment “retiring” U.S. Senator Jeff Flake (R-Arizona) as McCain’s replacement. That would give Flake; a notorious Trump critic, at least another year in office.

Such a deal would enrage voters, and destroy the Grand Old Party in Arizona. Flake declined to seek reelection after polls indicated he would lose the Republican primary.

The likely result of such shenanigans would be all-out voter rebellion and an attempt to recall Ducey. The hatred generated by such a screw job will raise voter frustration to unprecedented highs.

John McCain is not a hero; instead he is a corrupt elitist whose only goal in life, is to hold onto political power at all costs. It was McCain’s brand of self-serving hypocrisy that created the Trump movement.

We should be thankful that McCain is passing from the scene. It is hard to imagine a more destructive performance in the United States Senate than that of John McCain.
